Why?
As the Internet has grown, it has been changed. In the words of Maria Farrell and Robin Berjon, it has “become something that is done to us, not something we collectively remake every day.”
Outside the dopamine drips of corporate socials and the targeted adware of mainstream news, the Internet is still a wild creature. It’s uncontrollable. Uncontainable.
2Second(Fuse) exists in this wildness because I will not be contained by Flatland’s lack of dimensionality.
It’s a way of building context for myself: examining, understanding, modifying and reinforcing my own knowledge and ideas in a perpetual feedback loop.
It puts into practice some hard-won schooling:
- If you want to effect change in the world, start by changing yourself, then your immediate environment. Work outward from there. Done properly, the hardest part is at the beginning and it gets easier as you go.
- You have to be seen to be found. You have to see to find. The same basic behavior drives both results.
- Messages in bottles sometimes return with a reply.
